Not quite baby kissing - but close

In a total politician and baby moment yesterday, Anja was lucky enough to get a tickle on the head from John Kerry. We went down to a big rally to hear John Kerry speak with Howard Dean. We were waaaaaay in the back (technically outside of the event) but that paid off because it also happened to be where his motorcade was loading. He went along and was shaking hands of the crowd and doing the "campaign trail tango" as I like to call it. Axel and Anja were across the street from the rest of us because Axel had to take Anja to go potty and couldn't get back to where we were. Turns out they were in the right spot because just before he got into his car (which had followed him as he walked down the road) he went to the corner where Axel held Anja up on his shoulders and John Kerry (who is quite tall) tickled her head. lol. I was too far away to get a picture, darnit, but the story will definately go down in the lore of her childhood! As I was telling Dylan and Kiah - The next President of the United States tickled Anja's head!

Standing Up For Children Instead Of Standing In Line For Brunch

We did things a little differntly this Mother's Day....

Instead of standing in line for brunch - we stood up for our children! Mother's Acting Up held a parade, in the tradition of Julia Ward Howe, who created Mother's Day in 1872
to demand a better world for our children, and for ALL children. As Ms. Howe said so long ago, and still ringing true today, "Why do not the mothers of mankind interfere in these matters, to prevent the waste of that human life that they alone bear and know the cost?"

I dressed in my finest punjabi as my chosen expression of motherhood - "Lakshmi Mama", and Tina paid honor to those mothers who rise up against those who oppress us as "Che Mama". Here we are as we gathered for the parade.

At the end of the parade, we were treated to an amazing street poetry performance, by an artist whose name I didin't catch. I video taped it, and as soon as I get it sized down for uploading, I will share it with you. (If you know the name of the artist who performed the piece, please let me know so I can give her full credit!)

It was the best Mother's Day I ever had. I told Anja as we were driving to the parade, "We are going to march to tell others we love our children." She asked, "For me, mama?"

Yep, for you baby. For all my babies, and for all the world's babies.
