I can't remember when I laughed this hard

This is just purely brilliant!

A proud parenting moment

This past weekend Dylan was at the local ice cream shop with Kiah and Anja when a big ol' Hummer drove up. Having heard me go on at length about the evilness of such vehicles Dylan was inspired to do a little bit of guerilla action. She approached the people who had emerged from the fortress on wheels and said, "I noticed you drove up in a Hummer." To They smiled and nodded very proudly. "Nice." She said flatly. To which they responded with thanks and more pride. Then Dylan - with her angelic little face so bright eyed and innocent - asks them, "So tell me....Do you like destroying the environment?" The Hummer-people just stared in confusion and bewilderment. She walked away shaking from the adrenaline it took for her (a normally very shy and reserved girl) to do this, but feeling strong and full of fire.

This has got to be one of my proudest moments as a parent! Truly!

Happy Getting Married!

We went by the county building where people are lined up clear around the block waiting in line to get their marriage licenses. There were even some people who were getting married right there. We rounded the corner just in time to see the end of a Jewish ceremony - Mazel Tov! It was the most incredible and intense feeling there. So many people so happy and so much love. Yes, there were some people who were not happy and yelling horrible things, but they were a teeny-tiny minority and it wasn't hard to just ignore the hate and see the love everywhere else. I got all choked up and almost cried a couple times talking to people. Love is an awesome and powerful force!!! One couple even told me conratulations as I congratulated them. I explained that since I had not been discriminated against, I have been married for several years. They told me it didn't matter when, where or to whom I married and that the whole point of the day is to celebrate their marriage, my marriage, your marriage....ALL commitments of LOVE! Amen.

Here is a picture of Anja giving a couple some flowers. She said, "Happy Getting Married!" as she handed them the flowers (and then pretended to be all shy. )

LOVE IS IN THE AIR!!!

There are some things that I absolutely LOVE about living in the Portland area. Today, there is one more thing to add to the list of things.......Multnomah County is going to begin issuing marriage licenses to gay couples today!!!!!!!! They made the decision in private and announced it last night. The official news conference will be this morning, but already people were lining up overnight.

I AM SO HAPPY!!!!!

We are going to go down to give couples in line flowers later this morning. I didn't have the cash to send flowers to the people in San Fransisco before, but I have some now and how wonderful that we can go and give them to the people face to face. We can show our support and share in the love.

Of course the hate-filled discriminatory opposition is already rearing its ugly head. The usual players were fast to respond with the usual rhetoric....blah blah blah. It makes me a bit nervous here in "little Beruit" (the lovely label bestowed on this region my the elder Bush several years ago...) that the police will be out in their typical excessive force. They have already said they will be "erring on the side of caution" but did not elaborate as to what that means. I imagine that it means there will be cause for the chant..."You're sexy, you're cute, take off your riot suit!" Portland police love to get dressed up for a good show. There is a call for the governor to step in and prevent it from happening. I hope that Mr. Kulongoski has the cajones to stand up for what is right and leave it alone...or better yet...send his well wishes to the happy couples!
